Principal Cox Media
What was I doing when I decided to do the MBA
After leaving school I was a full time executive trainee at CIG (Australian subsidiary of BOC) and extremely fortunate to be mentored by the chief executive whilst I studied part time for my BEc. With five years great experience in finance and marketing I went to the UK to work and travel in Europe.
Why I chose Cranfield
I approached BOC to sponsor me to Harvard but after saying they did not sponsor MBA students they recommended attending Cranfield, an unknown university in Australia. However, the lower cost of only a one year course combined with a more mature intake and practical business approach was appealing to me.
What I got out of it
The Cranfield MBA has not been particularly important to me in gaining employment, except perhaps for my initial job working in M & A for Bankers Trust. I have spent over 30 years specializing in the media industry where at least in the early years academic expertise was considered an oddity.
However, the Cranfield teaching in financial analysis, statistics and corporate strategy has been greatly beneficial in my providing consulting to operators, investors and government bodies in the media industry. As a result I have established a reputation as the leading independent media economist, analyst and public speaker in Australia.
